ALLENDALE —The Michigan Tech Huskies' GLIAC road trip took a turn for the worse as they fell 87-64 to the Grand Valley State Lakers Thursday night. After a slow start and consistent foul trouble, MTU couldn't recover despite valiant efforts in the second half.

“Credit Grand Valley tonight,” coach Josh Buettner said. “They made key plays in the second half after we cut it down to four. Brad showed what he can do offensively, but as a team we need to play harder and trust each other on the floor.”
Michigan Tech (4-8, 1-2 GLIAC) found themselves trailing early against a hot-shooting Grand Valley State squad (5-7, 2-0 GLIAC). William Dunn led the Lakers with 11 points in the first half, powering GVSU to a 39-24 lead at the break.
Despite a strong start to the second half, cutting the deficit to just four points, the Huskies couldn't overcome their earlier struggles. Turnovers and fouls plagued MTU, ultimately leading to the 23-point defeat.
Tomashek led the Huskies with 14 points, while Simonsen (13) and Gherezgher (11) also contributed in double figures. Drew Barrie grabbed a team-high five rebounds, but MTU couldn't find enough defensive answers against the Lakers' offensive attack.
Ethan Alderink paced Grand Valley State with a game-high 16 points, while Trevon Gunter and Kohen Thompson each snatched four rebounds.
This loss stings for the Huskies, who now face an uphill battle in the GLIAC standings. Moving forward, they'll need to tighten up their defense and limit turnovers to get back on track.
